Rollercoaster Tycoon is a theme park building simulation series created by Chris Sawyer in 1999, released for Windows PC the game was hit among PC gamers that two expansions Corkscrew Follies, and Loopy Landscapes was included in the collection edition. It was followed by three sequels, titled Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, and RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 MobileCGW.
First things first: What's on this list that can be done with the game's still paused, has to be done now. First and foremost, players must reset Death Slide (by double-clicking the close button), or else it will crash. A less urgent thing to do next, would be to close Whiplash, since it's so intense nobody is willing to go on. Follows Boat Jam as well, since people can't get off the ride. - 2Why It Rocks
Gameplay
Players in this game are allowed to build their own theme park in 21 scenarios while meeting the scenario goals. The player can spend the money they have to, players can choose from dozens of roller coaster types and can also build log flumes, carousels, bumper cars, haunted houses, go karts, ferris wheels, and swinging ships, among other rides. They can also customize rollercoaster rides to balance out the intensity and excitement rating for customers to enjoy. They must meet the needs of the customers hunger and thirst and bathroom urgency by building food and drink stands, bathroom stalls, souvenir stands, balloon stands and information stands with umbrellas.
The player must make sure they park they build satisfies customers (known as “peeps” in the third game) and makes them feel happy while at the same time you must maximize funding for research for rides and stands. You must also hire workers including Handymen (known as “janitors” in the third game) to clean up the litter, empty trash bins clean the barf on the path, water flower gardens, and mow lawns. Mechanical workers (known as “mechanics” in the third game) to fix and inspect rides to make sure they're safe and working properly. Policemen (known as “security guards' in the third game) to prevent vandalism on light poles, benches, trash bins. Entertainers in animal costumes to entertain customers and make them happy. You can also give customers the option to buy umbrellas or build indoor rides in case in rains or there's lightning.
You can raise and lower land, add water and add scenery to various scenarios.
Why It Rocks
- You can build your own theme park in any form anyway you like.
- The Handymen, Mechanical workers and Entertainers are useful to hire as they can help keep the theme park clean, safe and help customers be happy.
- The Merry Go Round plays memorable classical theme music.
- The park theme songs are composed by Allister Brimble.
- If you build a good layout for your theme park, build an awesome rollercoaster ride, and charge the right amount of money at the entrance or for rides or food stalls, it can make customers happy and earn you money to keep going.
- You can pause your game if you're overwhelmed by problems in the theme park and go back and fix it by reassigning areas for your handymen, mechanical workers and entertainers.
- You can maximize research funds for your rides, food stalls which is highly recommended as you'll need new rides to increase the popularity of your theme park.
- Each time you complete the scenario you are rewarded by customers clapping hands and you're rewarded with a new scenario.
- Both expansion packs include new rides and scenarios.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2
- The designs to rides were updated.
- The Time Twister and Wacky Worlds expansion packs gave flat rides, coasters, and stalls unique versions of themselves.
- This sequel retained all of the coasters from Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes.
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3
- The graphics were given an upgrade, from 2D pixelated parks to next-gen 3D parks.
- RCT3 also introduced a 360-degree rotation method, so your parks are not restricted to isometric viewpoints.
- You can’t kill the Peeps, although which is a great addition, infuriating if you want to make a death park.
- Various new track pieces were added to coasters like the Looping Coaster, including corkscrews and twists. The Wooden Coaster now has a loop (a Son-Of-Beast thing).
- Expansion packs named Soaked! and Wild! now introduced proper coasters and attractions since RCT1. Soaked! introduced water slides and pools. Wild! introduced safaris and zoo animals.
Bad Qualities
- Each scenario is on a set time limit so one year takes 90 minutes to complete and there's no option to speed up your scenario so you'll have to not pause your game.
- The Policemen you hire in the game are generally useless as they don't do much except prevent vandalism and drain your money.
- Having your Handymen mow the lawns is considered a waste of time as you can use the shovel button to clear the tall grass on the lawn.
- Tragic issues will occur If the rollercoaster station brakes fail, then you run the risk of rollercoasters with customers on it will crashing into other rollercoaster cars, they die and your park will have a high risk losing popularity.
- No form of Sandbox mode or scenario editor, which the later games would include.
- The Xbox version is pretty much identical to the PC version and lacks additional features. It does include the scenarios from the expansion packs though.
- RCT2’s WW and TT expansion packs didn’t introduce any proper coasters, unlike RCT1 and RCT3, just new ride designs.
