I played some RCTC on mobile and I loved it, and decided to get it on steam. Everything is about the same, but queue lines seem to give me a hard time. Is there any way to make this queue line just go left a few squares and THEN connect to the path?
RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile was updated to a new version today (1.1.0). The numerous new features to RCT4M include the eagerly awaited Queue Lines – the first of MANY additional classic gameplay features from the original games that are finally available to the mobile version. Here’s a quick run down of the new features:
- Queue Lines – the option to add Queue Lines to all of your coasters, attractions, and rides has been added! Just build the Queue Line Center to get started! Be sure to make the lines long enough or your peeps may get unhappy because they can’t get a space in line!
- 15 New User Levels – A bunch of new levels were added to the game so you can continue to earn XP and level-up to earn rewards and unlock new buildings/goals.
- New Ride Animations – All rides now have a start and stop animation that adds a whole new dimension of realism to the game. It also syncs with your queue lines so your peeps know when to get on and off of rides.
- Improved Tutorial – A new tutorial For our first time players to make it easier and faster to get into the game. Also, the first 50 coaster parts you build are completely free!
- Scheduled Downtime Support – Server downtimes with lack of information are now a thing of the past.
- Bug Fixes: A number of stability improvements (crash fixes), performance enhancements, fixes to the goals system, text display issues, and improved memory handling (all of which will now mean the game runs super smooth).
We’ve also been promised that future updates to RCT4M will include entire new categories of rides, environmental improvements, coaster track improvements, and peep behaviors as well as much more!

So here you’ll find the announcement trailer for Rollercoaster Tycoon 4. While I’d normally be excited, the word Mobile was added to the end. This screenshot below hints on social integration (potentially good) but the mention of a limited number of tickets immediately douses this otherwise great announcement in the thing that I dreaded the most – the double whammy of cheap mobile ports and disincentive-based gaming.
Outcry has been overwhelmingly negative towards this step. Could this be the Candy Crushification of one of our most beloved franchises? One look at the (at the time of this writing) near-7000 thumbs down ratings compared to just over 150 thumbs up on the announcement trailer alone should send a message. A deeper look at the trailer tells more of a story though. From a hardcore coaster fan’s eyes, here’s what I see:
- No queue for riders? Do they just appear on rides now?
- Why does there seem to be a maximum guest size now?
- The + signs at the top – one is money, the other is likely the Atari Tickets referenced above. Microtransactions to continue to play very likely injected here. (also known as “You’ve reached the quota of fun for the day, pay more or wait out a clock”)
- Limit of 5 free tickets for friends every day! Does this mean invite your friends or buy tickets?
- Where are my Mascots? Handymen? Mechanics? Not a single one of any of them walking around in this trailer
- Deep analysis of guest intentions (i.e. “Looking at Rollercoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile makes me sick!”) seems to be gone
- Take one look at the screen below – tickets for loops? Coins for track? It’s not encouraging.
These are obviously very early impressions gleaned from a trailer, but as a fan, I’m very, very worried. iOS-only slaps all Android users in the face as well, but it’s those of us who have spent dozens (or far more) of hours creating and cultivating incredible theme parks. This is the equivalent of going into the building mechanics and charging your patrons to use the bathroom.
At the time of writing, Atari promises another Rollercoaster Tycoon title on PC, but rumors out of GDC indicate it’s a browser based Facebook title. Until we have more than the following tweet from Atari, we’ll have to wait and see. If anyone from Atari would like to send our mind at ease on this, I’d be more than happy to hear it:
